Sea Glass

Since I last blogged I've developed an interest in Sea Glass..... that is glass that has spent a lot of time being thrown about by the sea and then turns up on a beach somewhere all lovely and smooth.

Here are some of my favourite pieces....  all found on Welsh beaches :-

Usually I can't identify the item the glass comes from..... but I think the green glass below is the neck of a bottle...... this would make a rather pretty pendant (when I get round to it lol).

This unusual glass below is the bottom of a bottle..... I believe the dimple is where the glass is 'held' while it is blown.

I don't find much in the way of dark blue glass.... so this is quite 'precious'.

Below is a brown medicine bottle stopper...... the only one I've ever found..... although I have found a clear one.

I love all sea glass..... but my absolute favourite is 'black' glass. This is old glass that was used to protect the contents from light and was made very thick. It isn't really black... but very dense ... and usually a dirty looking muddy green.

Black glass gets overlooked on the beach as it just looks like a black pebble until you hold it up to a strong light.  As shown here in piece of black glass bottle bottom where you can see the actual colour of the glass is a green.

Obviously bottle bottoms are much easier to spot than smaller pieces!

As you can see from the photo below .... I found quite a few black pieces on this particular day :-)

I hope you liked looking at some of my glass.  I have a huge collection so I will post some more photos of glass that I already have collected.  And I'll certainly continue to post more glass as I find it.
